Belgium

Cold, Wet, Beautiful Bruges

I have mixed memories of visiting Bruges in Belgium. It was the holidays and I was alone (not literally as I was with some great friends), but my heart seemed very alone. It was a point in my life where my heart felt irrepairably broken. It is easy now to laugh about how I cried my way through Europe on this holiday, but at the time it was hard. It was also incredibly amazing. I swear travel is healing. I felt so lucky to spend the holiday with great friends Shaun and Angelina. I wandered the cobbled streets in the rain, ran along the canals, and explored each little shop in the cold, miserable weather, which I actually loved. I always feel the holidays should be cold – it makes way for the cozy comforts of warm drinks and fireplace finger warming. And even though I probably was not overly cheerful, being with friends who took time to show me a new country is something I will never forget.
